con sus dedos arrugados por tanta agua

The Hand project XV: Radio Free Europe

Thereza's hands

El trabajo que realizan tanto Thereza como Pia me alegra el día. El aire liviano de sus obras, el optimismo, la delicadeza, el uso del color o el ojo curioso, la forma de contar sus historias y muchas cosas más hacen que las sienta cerca pese a vivir en muy diferentes lugares. Tras dibujar sus manos pensé: "¡me estoy divirtiendo tanto!"

Tal y como le dije a alguien ayer: tampoco es tan difícil ser amable con la gente que es amable contigo. Y resulta, además, muy gratificante...

Thereza's and Pia's work makes my day. Their light air, the optimism, the delicacy, the perfect use of color or the curious eye, the way they tell their own stories and a lot more things make me feel them close, even if we live in such different places. After drawing their hands I thought: "I'm having so much fun!"

As I commented yesterday to someone: It isn't hard to be nice to people that is nice to you. Plus, it happens to be so gratifying...

The hand project XIV: Atlantic Crossing

Manos dibujadas a distancia. No se trata de desnudar el alma de nadie, sino de dedicar un poco de tiempo, imaginación, esfuerzo... Me voy haciendo a este nuevo reto: compartir con desconocidos conocidos este proyecto personal, dándole una nueva dimensión. No sé a dónde lleva esta experiencia, ni cuánto tiempo durará. Sentémonos a observar.

Hands drawn in the distance. I don't mean to undress anybody's soul here, but to dedicate a little time, imagination, effort... I'm getting used to this new challenge: sharing this personal project with known strangers, providing it with a new dimension. I can't foresee where this experience will take me or how long it will last. Let's sit to watch.

Kimberley's hands

Tengo la suerte de haber encontrado gente encantadora a través de mi blog. Me llama la atención la cantidad de madres artistas que he conocido. Kimberley bautizó su blog con el nombre más bonito. Un nombre así engancha: When Skies are Grey.
Por otra parte, Jill y su blog me han acompañado desde que empecé.
Ambas son creativas, familiares, contenidas y tienen afán por mantener su hueco de artista en medio de su vida familiar. En más de una ocasión me he sentido identificada con sus palabras.

I am very fortunate for having met many nice people through my blog. It amazes me how many mom artists you can find out there. Kimberley named her blog with the most wonderful name ever: When Skies Are Grey.
On the other hand, Jill's blog have come along with me since I set foot in the blogosphera.
Both are highly creative and familiar, and they both try hard to keep an artistic profile in her daily life. I've related to their words more than once.

The Hand Project XIII: Family Pack

Charo's hands

Elegimos a la persona que queremos, pero no elegimos su mochila, su familia. Las familias políticas son importantes. La que a mí me ha tocado fue una caja de sorpresas. Mi suegra es artista, pintora, escultora, sumamente excéntrica y rebelde como una adolescente. Es la maquinista del tren en la Isla de Nuncajamás. Más leña al fuego!
El problema sobreviene a la hora de pisar tierra, como podéis imaginar. Cuando sales de la vida de fantasía y color y te enfrentas al día a día, a la cola del supermercado, al impresentable vecino del quinto, a la organización de la vida más allá de la pintura, el reciclaje, el barro, la escayola, la brea...

We pick the person we like, but don't choose its knapsack, its family. The in-laws are quite important. Mine were a box of surprises. My mother-in-law is an artist, painter, sculptor, eccentric and rebellious like a teenager. She's leading the train in Neverland Island. Fuel to the fire!

As you may imagine it gets hard to land on earth. When you step out of the fantasy and the multicolor life and you must face the day to day, from supermarket queues, the dreadful neighbor on the fifth floor, to the mundane organization of life beyond the painting, the recycling, the mud, the stucco, the tar…

Paula's hands

Y ahora que Paula ha venido de visita, no podía dejar escapar la ocasión de incluir sus manos. Tengo dos cuñadas estupendas. Una en Lanzarote y otra en Londres. Asilvestradas, atléticas, responsables, sencillas, independientes... Si no fuera por la distancia serían las perfectas cuñadas. O quizá por ello, ya lo son.

Y a todas ellas, mis hijas las adoran. Intuyen su alegría y su lado silvestre.

And now that Paula is here visitting, I couldn't let go the chance of drawing her hands. I happen to have two wonderful sisters-in-law. One lives in Lanzarote and the other one in London. A little wild, athletic, responsible, modest, independent… If it wasn't for the far distance they would be the perfect sisters-in-law. Or perhaps for this reason, already they are.

My daughters adore all of them. They notice their joy and their wildness.

All I'm trying to say is that my mundane feelings are put aside when I think of my friend Ainhoa and how I want her to come back to our boring hours spent at the park with our kids.
