she's turning nine

la princesa Nocilla cumple hoy nueve años
y está preocupada porque este día -su día- se parece demasiado a los demás;
hace sol, está jugando con su hermana mientras canturrean;
congelaría este momento
sólo para mí,
grabaría sus canciones
y sus monólogos;
quiere correr
nadar
jugar a tenis
saltar
y
más;
no tiene fin,
su inquietud se expande como un gas,
lo quiere todo,
lo quiere ya;
tiene nueve años, claro

::

my princess Nutella turns nine today
and she's worried cause this day -her day- looks pretty much like any other given day;
it's sunny, she's playing along with her sister while they sing;
if only i could freeze this moment
just for me,
if only i could record her songs
and her monologues;
she wants to run
swim
play tennis
jump
and
more;
her will has no end,
her curiosity expands like a gas,
she wants it all,
she wants it now;
she's nine alright

Sales

Sale season arrived last Monday and I went shopping. My family, all of them, needed brand new shoes. And so I bought shoes. Next morning husband put on his new pair of sneakers. We waved him goodbye as he rode his bike away for work and then, the kids and I, we noticed he had forgotten to tear off the sale tag (and mind you, it wasn't small)! Oh my, he's so forgetful... he's funny that way.
This is a quick sketch of the image we saw...

::

For the past ten years I've seen her face

Princess Marmalade turns ten today.
 I have been her mother for ten amazing years.
I feel lucky and grateful.
I can only hope for the next ten years to be as sweet as these.

::

Hoy hago diez años de madre.
Me siento afortunada y agradecida.

An unreal time

Sorry for the absence. I have let go too many days without posting here, without pouring thoughts and impressions, without showing you guys any work that I'm doing or anything related to the life I am living. It's been a different and slightly unreal week. First off, I've changed my walls for a few weeks, meaning we had to reorganize and simplify family life overnight, even simplifying my usual chaos in order to move in a simple and imperceptible manner. How different these walls  and these floors sound! How different is the smell of other people's furniture!
Moreover, my grandma has been hospitalized, now improving and on her way to a happy ending, but seeing her frightened, lucid and angry at her own body has moved me more than I can describe. We tell each other that this is how life goes, but needless to say it's always sad and upsetting to see.
And yes, it's raining again.

::

ring ring

ok, i am not so much into anniversaries but my girls were so excited about it this morning that i couldn't avoid it. yes, it's my wedding anniversary. now that i think of it, it was the weirdest wedding of all weddings: no invitations, no meal, no wedding dress, no ring!
i remember my gramma was really upset because i didn't have a proper wedding ring. i kinda regret it now. that must be why i have been so much into big rings ever since.

::

Looking back

Looking for inspiration in old family albums I have the strangest feeling; placing myself in front of unknown views, staring at unfamiliar family smiles, putting names to kids that are not longer young and being surprised by their clothes and attitudes. Everything is so weird.

::

David y Milagros

When you live in not-too-large a city you can drive a little away, and sooner than you expect you find yourself in a complete different world.  My salt and sand soul would rather steer me to the sea, but not this time. A little over an hour from home we arrived at the mountains where a cousin of mine has a cabin to retreat when life's rhythm becomes a bit stressing. Just a poor old shepherd's hut, slowly improved and quite cozy, where you exchange comfort and commodities for quietness and mountain tranquility.

That is the world of David and Milagros. This shepherds couple, real "pasiegos", the last of the nomadics, change their emplacement with the seasons, to better care of their livestock. They work long hours every day, without distinction of holidays or weekends. Their life is hard, rough and lonely. Their conversation is full of words that connect with the land, with grazing and nature, which undoubtedly will be lost in time. We were amazed by them and pitied them all at once, being faced to a life where everything is expendable. I was curious to know more about their desires and memories, but there, in the mountains,  questions seemed superfluous.

We left with fresh milk, kilos of nuts, vegetables and muffins. There stood David and Milagros, their cows in the stable, donkeys on the grassland, sheep on the hillside,  colts lost high up in the cliffs and the two nicer and smarter shepherd's dogs I've ever met, at the door of the cabin tail-waving us goodbye.

::

Happy birthday

It's husband's birthday today.
If he didn't visit my blog daily I could have told you about my troubles looking for a birthday gift. Fathers, mothers and husbands are hard when it comes to buying them a present, don't you think? They don't seem to need anything in particular, and they look upon birthdays as a mere trifle.
Anyway, I kinda survey among friends came up with good suggestions which unfortunately were either too expensive or I wasn't sure he would like.
Now I am a little embarrassed to say that me and the girls have chosen the safest path: another pair of Converse shoes. Right. Again. Right.

Happy Birthday!!

::

Otra vez. Claro.

¡Feliz cumpleaños!

Away and back

Unai and Pakea's crew arrived yesterday and I dropped by at the port to welcome them, along with some other family members, a bunch of friends and the usual politicians and people from sponsoring companies. Hellos, kisses, hugs, brief and fleeting words for everyone there and the traditional greeting dance in Basque folklore, aurresku.

::

If you're happy and you know it

It's Monday and the house is quiet. This is their last school week before Easter holidays and I must make the best of it. Because sooner than later I'll be the full-time mom on holiday mode: two little persons fluttering around me (and husband) all the time and they need us to entertain them, feed them, take them here and there, take part in their fights, it's her fault, no, she started it, I don't like this, puagh, I won't go to the shower, coming, hold on for a sec... And even so, I proudly watch them grow, learn, laugh, talk, interpret the whole world and I find it's fascinating. Parenting is contradictory.

::

Long time no see

Hello toes,
it's been a long time since you were bare and touching the warm sand or since you shivered at the cold seawater. Today's been our first visit of the year and it felt like a homecoming. Ah, the beach. Here I belong.

::

Hola pies,
