The Great Parade

Right in time for the Madrid exhibit I decided to print a very limited edition of prints and I had them printed in an awesome Hannehmule paper. They turned out great. There are a few left in my shop. This one in particular features an array of characters from my drawings parading in style.

Para acompañar la expo de Madrid hice una serie muy limitada de láminas, impresas en un papel alucinante, que han quedado bien bonitas. Quedan unas pocas a la venta en mi tienda. Ésta en concreto muestra es una colección de personajes de mis dibujos, a modo de desfile.

Sale season arrived last Monday and I went shopping. My family, all of them, needed brand new shoes. And so I bought shoes. Next morning husband put on his new pair of sneakers. We waved him goodbye as he rode his bike away for work and then, the kids and I, we noticed he had forgotten to tear off the sale tag (and mind you, it wasn't small)! Oh my, he's so forgetful... he's funny that way.

Han llegado las rebajas y claro, me fui de compras. La familia, todos, necesitábamos calzado nuevo, así que compré zapatos para todos. A la mañana siguiente husband se puso sus zapatillas nuevas. Nos despedimos de él cuando marchaba en su moto hacia el trabajo y fue entonces cuando, las niñas y yo, vimos que se había olvidado arrancar la etiqueta del precio (que no era pequeña)! Es tan olvidadizo... que es gracioso.

The Dream Syndicate, 30 years later

I remember when I first listened to this album by The Dream Syndicate. It had been published a few years back and I was then living in Seville. As a teenager I listened to the Ramones, the Velvet Underground, X and the Clash, but I felt that album defined my musical taste better. I listened to it a hundred times, nay, a thousand times. I seized every song.

A few years later, not only I had the chance to see them performing live, but I could also strike a long friendship. I was, I've been, fortunate.

Now, when the thirtieth anniversary of that album is right around the corner, I remember that teenager, the connection she had with that record, her emotion. And I would have liked to tell her that thirty years later she will be just as excited with these songs; I would like to tell her that the band will reunite and that she will see it. I would tell her, you are not going to believe it, but you'll do them a poster to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of "The Days of Wine & Roses". How about that?

Recuerdo perfectamente cuándo escuché por primera vez este disco de The Dream Syndicate. Hacía ya unos años que se había publicado y por entonces vivía en Sevilla. Yo, que era una adolescente que escuchaba a los Ramones, la Velvet Underground, X y los Clash, sentí que aquel disco era el que mejor definía mi gustos musicales. Lo escuche cien veces, qué digo, mil veces. Hice mía cada canción.

Unos años más tarde, no sólo tuve la oportunidad de verles en directo, si no que además llegué a entablar una larga amistad. Fui, he sido, afortunada. 

Ahora, cuando se cumplen treinta años de la edición de aquel disco, me acuerdo de aquella adolescente, de la conexión con aquel disco, de la emoción. Y me gustaría decirle que treinta años después será capaz de emocionarse de igual manera con esas canciones; que aquel grupo se reunirá y ella lo verá. Le diría, no te lo vas a creer, pero harás un poster para conmemorar el treinta aniversario de "The Days of Wine & Roses". Ahí es nada.

I've been doodling a bit differently on the side of other prosaic things. You know, when you want to try new things but you cannot borrow other person's hand and things turn out to be not exactly what you had in mind, but that's ok because you like trying anyway. 

I can't decide what to do next, but I'll work my way through every idea I have this morning.

He estado dibujando algo diferente aparte de otras cosas más prosaicas. Ya sabes, cuando quieres probar algo nuevo pero no puedes coger prestada la mano de otra persona y las cosas te salen no exactamente como habías pensado, pero no importa porque te gusta intentarlo de todas formas.

No puedo decidir qué voy a hacer a continuación, pero pelearé con cada idea que tengo esta mañana.

Espera a que me ponga mi máscara favorita.

When I dream I can really sing

This morning I am really happy to be meeting again with Aran, now that she's on this side of the pond for a few days. In fact, she comissioned me to make a piece of art just for her, and this here is what I have come up with. I am on my way to give it to her. I hope she likes it.

What a little cold can do

A few days of northern cold and snowy weather and hours last longer, rooms are quieter and work happens easily.  These are some of the drawings that came out of the cold.

My notebook for Impedimenta

I've been so lucky for participating in this project with Impedimenta. I'm grateful to a couple of ladies (you know who you are) for having linked me to these nice guys, and to them for opening the door to their publishing world. What a dreamy and mellow way of ending this convulsed year.

My girls were almost as excited as me when the notebooks arrived. So pretty, carefully made and soft to the touch. At a first glance I thought mine looked a little too dark, darker than the original drawing, but now that I've had it in my hands for some hours, I think the outcome is great.

Of course, my girls couldn't help but start writing in them.

He sido muy afortunada al haber participado en este proyecto para Impedimenta. Estoy muy agradecida a un par de damas (vosotras sabéis quiénes sois) por haberme enlazado con esta gente estupenda, y a ellos les estoy agradecida por abrirme la puerta a su mundo editorial. Qué forma más apacible y lírica de acabar este año tan convulso.

Mis chicas estaban tan emocionadas como yo cuando llegaron las libretas. Tan bonitas, cuidadosamente hechas, suaves al tacto. En una primera impresión me pareció que la mía había quedado un poco oscura, al menos más oscura que el dibujo original, pero tras horas de tenerlas en mismanos, creo que el resultado es fantástico.

Y por supuesto, mis chicas no han podido contenerse y empezar a escribir en ellas.
