Stones and fossils

::

Each stone has been quietly there for years, dozens of years, rolling on the beach. So they will remain. We are nothing but ephemeral and even so we take ourselves rather seriously. My steps on this shore won't be remembered after the first high tide. Of this algae its shadow will remain, fossilized, like a ghost whose purple color has faded away. Stones are beautiful, imperfect, quiet and mundane. And they will outlive us.

A garden of stones

::

I'd have a garden full of stones if I only could. They brighten up any given day.

I thought of Elisabeth

At the beach the other day, I thought of Elisabeth, who was looking for faces in the fruit she bought.

Playground

I don't know how long I could be watching the sea, going through stones and pebbles with my family at my side. It's daytime magic.

Delia

Delia wants winter to pass over her and to bring her quietness and long sleep hours, so whenever we come close to her we walk on tiptoe, speak in muffled voices, afraid of being too loud and change her luck. Sometimes, when we are sure of not waking her up, we caress her skin or we tell her matters from our daily lives. I whisper stories in her ear so she can live them in her dreams.

::

I see stones

Today's one of those days I would lie down, surrounded by beautiful rocks, drawing them with my mind.

Rocks and snow

::

We spent our Sunday on the beach and on the country, between rocks and snow. It's been cold, very cold.

Stones scare me when they are bare in my hands. Each drawed line makes me feel them warmer and more talkative. Ink seep through them, scratching the surface, giving up their perfection and bringing out the shapes I see in my dreams.

The hunt

Just in case you thought I was going to resist the temptation: I searched, I touched, I chose, I ruled out... The stone hunt was uplifting.

Stones, part 8

Yesterday I was on the verge of throwing one of these stones to a Mail Office employee. The same guy who a couple of weeks ago told me I must previously wait for the notice before coming to pick up the expected delivery. The same guy who insisted on me coming to pick up the delivery at that same office. The same guy who yesterday said that they never sent notice for such deliveries, you just had to come pick it up as soon as you knew it had been sent to you. The same guy who's made me waste time in queuing, days and journeys. How could he know about the matter of time, that luxury, that precious posession that I've grown very selfish with.
I turned around and walked through the door.

Yesterday

Me he levantado. Me he duchado. He desayunado. Me he puesto rimmel y barra de labios. He llegado al trabajo. He sucumbido ante una montaña de papeles. He resuelto, he charlado, he comido, he contestado a llamadas, he bocetado. Me he recorrido veinte tiendas sin éxito. He vuelto a casa. Mis hijas me han abrazado. He hecho diez cosas más aburridas, de maruja. He leído el periódico. Me he sentado a dibujar unas piedras...
..............................................................................................................................

I've got up. I've had a shower. I've had breakfast. I've put some rimmel and some lipstick on. I've kissed my daughters goodbye, leaving on their little faces a slight mark. They are still enjoying their Easter vacation. I've breathed some fresh morning air. I've arrived at work. I've surrendered to a mountain of papers. I've cleared out, chatted, had lunch, answered phonecalls, sketched... I've looked for a birthday present for my mom. I've covered over twenty stores unsuccessfully. I've come back home. The kids have hugged me. I've done ten boring house things. I've read the newspaper. I've sat and drawed some stones...
