We drove to San Sebastian to meet up with Calexico and see them play at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre. Last time I had seen them it had been twelve years ago or so. In my mind I could relive the fun times, the gigs, the meals, the roads, the anecdotes of the past. We had a very enjoyable evening ahead of us.

Fuimos a Donosti a encontrarnos con Calexico y verles tocar en el teatro Victoria Eugenia. La última vez que les había visto había sido hacía doce años o más. Mentalmente repasaba todas las escenas divertidas que vivimos juntos en el pasado, los conciertos, las carreteras, las anécdotas... Por delante se nos presentaba una tarde estupenda.
I'll admit I felt a certain longing for the past when I saw myself at yet another soundcheck, onstage, surrounded by cables, people at their unending tasks, musicians checking their instruments, and mostly waiting around for their turn to get up there and play.
The place was grandiose, elegant and warm. There in half-dark, soundcheck flowed, so familiar, so mundane.

Reconozco que me entró la nostalgia al verme de nuevo en una prueba de sonido, sobre el escenario, rodeada de cables, gente trabajando a lo suyo, músicos probando instrumentos, esperando el momento de ponerse a tocar.
El lugar era sobrecogedor, elegante y cálido. En semi penumbra, la prueba fue desgranándose, tan familiar, tan mundana.
The evening was full of nice surprises. Not only I enjoyed immensely the catching up, the reconnecting and the making of new friends, but I was introduced to the music of Blind Pilot, the opening act. Great vocals and feeling.

La tarde estuvo llena de sorpresas. No sólo porque disfruté muchísimo de ponerme al día, de reconectar y de hacer nuevos amigos. También porque me encantó la música de Blind Pilot, el grupo telonero de la gira. Unas voces refinadas y un muy buen hacer.
