We'll be a legend tomorrow

Ink, pencil, marker and papercuts on stiff cardstock

A lot of people ask me about the lamp-ladies origins. Like many of my drawings, it's in a dream of mine, which in turn was inspired by a conversation I had with my friend Ainhoa. That conversation revolved around the burka. I happened to see my first woman-in-a-burka in Bilbao. I freaked out. I was shocked. Later that day, we discussed how a piece of fabric is capable to destroy a person, making her visibly invisible. That night, fortunately, I dreamed of these sweet women, lamp shades hiding their faces, their expressions, smiles, tears, beauty and flaws. But, however, they gave me very good vibes. They were melancholy, but radiant, "enlightened". My lamp-ladies were born so, you see...

Now they are everywhere: on top of my table, among my papers, in my sketchbooks and in my etsy shop. These days I'll be filling it up with new original pieces and affordable prints.

Me impactó.
