I am upset. I don't go a week without reading about plagiarism. Gemma Correll struggles with big companies which copy her drawings all the time; just the other day I saw some stickers "inspired" in Elsa Mora's artwork; and now my admired Lady Desidia has been ripped off by Carrefour.
When I read or see something like this, it saddens me. Clearly there is a collective ongoing imagery shared online, which we all make ours at some point. Sometimes we might incorporate part of it unconsciously to our own visual language. We want to use techniques we see, we want to start making similar products we like, but I say, this should be always your starting point. And, of course, there's something we call humility and something we call giving credit to.
It frightens me to think in a giant's shadow gobbling up your work, your effort, in seconds. And it's hopeless.
On the other hand, I understand that large company designers work with a lot of pressure upon them. They are required to work at such pace that this directly exhausts their creativity and in many occasions, they steal from others. They copy line by line, they trace, they steal. Surely their bosses know about it and do not care. The theft must be well compensated by sales, I guess. And all of this just to keep producing and producing and producing. New collections every week, meat for consumption.
Maybe it's time for all of us, outraged at this meanness, to think carefully where we stand. It's hard not to get carried away by consumerism. It's hard not to get involved in the game. Maybe we should try. From here I ask you to buy thinking about it, not to feed this vortex. Please help me: if you know of companies that meet strict ethical codes, companies which are reliable, please give their names in the comments. There must be some.
This new drawing is dedicated to Lady Desidia. We are all disheartened, but maybe music could help us today.

Me he enfadado.

Me encanta.

Esti...this is a very tremendous post...and so needed.
I love your picture in honour of your friend.
GRACIAS...from all of us Artists!

I love your "lamp hats" - or what you could call them - and that you keep having them in your drawings.
it is disheartening and seems to happen too often. i like your drawing though :)
I really like your latest works esti, such nice colors and interesting themes!
